Recognizing Hanoi's craft villages to boost trade
Handicraft villages in Hanoi contribute approximately US$1 billion to the city's economy per year.
THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi has paid special attention to preserving and developing craft villages, especially honoring traditional values to make development of craft villages competitive in the domestic market and abroad.

Statistics by the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment showed that the city now has 337 craft villages and traditional craft villages certified for their products and preservation and promotion efforts.
Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, said the recognition of craft villages and traditional craft villages aims to honor the efforts of artisans, authorities, and local people in preserving and promoting traditional crafts.

To promote the development of craft villages, the Hanoi People's Committee has issued a plan with seven main groups of solutions, mostly on developing policies, applying science and technology, and training human resources and promoting trade.
Meanwhile, the department focuses on the implementation of the city's overall project for the Development of Handicraft Villages in 2025-2030, with a Vision to 2050.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment will also continue the promotion of One Commune One Product (OCOP) items and building tours to craft villages.

The Hanoi People's Committee has this year recognized 14 craft villages and traditional craft villages, including: Quang Ba lotus tea traditional village in Tay Ho District; Co Chat embroidery craft village in Thuong Tin District; Chung Chan sewing craft village in Phu Xuyen District; Hat Mon carpentry craft village in Phuc Tho District; Van An carpentry craft village in Son Tay Town; Com sticky rice village in Cau Giay District; Dinh Cong silversmith craft village and Mai Dong tofu village in Hoang Mai District; Ngu Xa bronze casting craft village in Ba Dinh District; Ba Duong Noi kite making traditional village in Dan Phuong District; And Com product traditional village on Hang Than Street in Ba Dinh District. |
