EU, Vietnamese hip-hop artist inspire green future 

THE HANOI TIMES — The European Union has enlisted the help of Vietnamese hip-hop artist Suboi to inspire a green future.

The "I've Got the Power" campaign in Vietnam highlights the growing partnership between the EU and Vietnam and exemplifies a shared commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

The campaign is part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, which aims to bridge global investment gaps and promote smart, clean, and secure infrastructure in the digital, energy, and transportation sectors while strengthening health, education, and research systems.

"The transition to renewable energy is not just about reducing carbon emissions, it's about creating a more sustainable future for the people and economies of Vietnam and our shared planet," said EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier.

"Through this campaign, we want people to understand the importance of sustainable energy and realize its positive impact on their lives and the future," he added.

Suboi’s new song, "The Power," produced by French-Vietnamese artist Nodey, serves as the campaign’s anthem, conveying the message that clean energy can improve everyday life and encourage people to embrace change for a better tomorrow.

“Sustainable energy isn’t just about technology but about people,” said Suboi. “I’m proud to collaborate with the European Union and be part of this innovative campaign that connects sustainability, music, and empowerment for a better future in Vietnam.”

The campaign also shares the stories of ordinary Vietnamese people who benefit from renewable energy. Hai, a delivery driver in Hanoi, switched to an electric bike to cut fuel costs and carbon emissions while increasing business efficiency. Tu, a café owner, now powers her shop with clean energy, reducing expenses and contributing to a greener environment.

The partnership between Vietnam and the European Union, which was established in 1990, has expanded to the renewable energy sector through EU-backed hydropower and wind energy projects.

One of the most notable initiatives is the Bac Ai Pumped Hydro Storage project in the central province of Ninh Thuan, the first of its kind in Vietnam. This facility stabilizes the national grid by storing surplus renewable energy and supplying power during peak hours, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

In the southern province of Dong Nai, the Tri An Hydropower Plant is undergoing upgrades to increase capacity, meet rising electricity demand, lower emissions, and support regional economic growth.

In the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh, an offshore wind farm helps cut 70,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. With EU support, the project is poised for further expansion.
